MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – After several mild fall days, the Twin Cities will see a sharp drop in temperatures this weekend as a strong cold front pushes across Minnesota late Friday, ending the recent warmth and possibly bringing the season’s first mix of rain and snow.

According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities, highs in the low 50s Thursday will fall into the 30s by Saturday as cold air spills south. The best chance of precipitation arrives Saturday, when a rain-snow mix could develop across southwest and south-central Minnesota, including areas near Mankato and Albert Lea. The Twin Cities metro may stay mainly dry, though light flurries can’t be ruled out Saturday night.

Forecasters expect highs in the mid-30s and overnight lows in the upper teens by Sunday morning, marking the coldest stretch so far this fall. Winds from the northwest will add to the chill, making outdoor activities uncomfortable and increasing the risk of patchy frost across the metro and outlying suburbs.

Residents should plan for colder mornings next week and check heating systems now before the deeper freeze arrives. While no significant snow accumulation is expected, the pattern signals a clear shift toward early winter for southern Minnesota.
