Minneapolis, Minnesota – Sweltering heat and a rising flood threat will slam Minnesota on Saturday, July 5, as oppressive humidity collides with stormy skies by afternoon. Residents near the Crow and Minnesota rivers — especially along Hwy 212 and in New Ulm — should stay alert for sudden flooding and road closures.
According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, heat index values will climb into the low 100s Saturday afternoon across central, east-central, and southern Minnesota. A Flood Warning also remains in effect for the Crow River at Rockford and the Minnesota River at Morton and Granite Falls, where water levels will continue rising through midweek.
Strong thunderstorms are expected to develop between 2 and 4 p.m. Saturday, especially in the Twin Cities, Mankato, and Rochester areas. Gusty winds and downpours may cause flash flooding, especially near low-lying roads and rivers. Rainfall amounts between a quarter and half an inch are likely, with locally higher totals.
Hot and humid weather continues through Sunday, with highs near 88°F. More storms are possible Monday and Tuesday before relief arrives midweek.
⚠️ Flood Warnings and Heat Advisories remain in effect into Sunday. Storm chances continue through Tuesday.
