DULUTH, Minnesota – A light mix of rain and snow will move across northern Minnesota tonight through the weekend as an Alberta Clipper system drops southeast across the region, bringing minor accumulations and colder air to the Northland.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, light snow or a rain–snow mix will develop this evening, especially across the higher terrain of the Arrowhead. Up to one inch of accumulation is possible near Grand Marais and the Iron Range, while lower elevations closer to Lake Superior should see mostly wet roads. Warm ground temperatures will limit most snow totals to under half an inch.
Additional rounds of light snow showers are possible Friday and again late Saturday through Monday, mainly along the South Shore and northern Iron County, where localized totals could reach a couple of inches. “While no significant storm is expected, drivers should watch for brief reduced visibility and slick spots during heavier bursts,” forecasters said.
Temperatures will stay seasonably cold, with highs in the 30s and lows dipping into the 20s. The system will exit early next week as drier air moves in from the northwest, setting up several clear but chilly nights across the region.
