DULUTH, Minn. – The air along Lake Superior carries that familiar October edge this morning — cool, damp, and just restless enough to remind Duluth residents that November is near. The city begins this week in calm, partly sunny fashion, but clouds will soon reclaim the sky and bring a brief taste of early winter’s chill before the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, today’s weather stays pleasant but breezy, with highs near 52°F and east winds up to 20 mph. That easterly flow will push cooler air inland and kick up small waves along the lakefront by late afternoon.
Wednesday brings more sunshine, with highs again in the lower 50s before a gradual pattern change Thursday. A weak front slides in from the Dakotas, spreading scattered showers late in the day and through Friday morning. While widespread rain isn’t expected, any light showers could make rural roads and stretches of I-35 slick for early travelers.
By Friday night, winds turn north off the lake, pulling in colder air and more cloud cover. Highs fall into the 40s with lows dipping into the mid-30s — cold enough for some northern hilltops to flirt with their first light frost since early fall.
This weekend looks mostly cloudy and cooler, perfect for late-season yard cleanup or cozying up before the next chill. To be fair, a colder November pattern appears ready to lock in soon.
