Duluth, MN – Snow and ice will blanket parts of northeast Minnesota today, making roads treacherous and driving hazardous through early Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 a.m. CDT Saturday for Duluth, Grand Rapids, Grand Marais, and surrounding counties, including major travel routes like Highway 61 and I-35. A wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain could bring up to 4 inches of snow and ice accumulations up to two-tenths of an inch. Wind gusts may reach 35 mph, significantly reducing visibility and increasing the risk of accidents.
The worst conditions are expected in Cook and Lake Counties, especially inland from Lake Superior. Drivers should slow down, use caution, and allow extra time for travel. Call 511 or visit 511mn.org for real-time road conditions.
Friday night will bring continued snow and possible freezing rain before tapering off after midnight. Another round of snow could arrive Saturday night into Sunday, with further accumulations expected midweek.
