Duluth, MN – A winter storm is expected to blanket northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin with up to 6 inches of snow through Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a Winter Storm Watch goes into effect Tuesday evening and will remain active through late Wednesday night. The advisory includes northeast Minnesota—particularly Duluth and surrounding areas—as well as Douglas and Bayfield counties in Wisconsin.

Forecasters say the highest chances for significant snowfall are in northeast Minnesota and portions of northwest Wisconsin. Snowfall is likely to be wet and heavy, raising concerns about hazardous travel conditions. Rain and freezing rain may also occur in parts of northwest Wisconsin, potentially limiting snow accumulation but increasing road risks.

Breezy winds are expected to accompany the system, reducing visibility and creating snow-covered, slippery roads across the region. Commuters and travelers are urged to plan ahead and allow extra time. Local road departments may deploy crews overnight to manage changing conditions.

Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts, prepare emergency kits for vehicles, and avoid unnecessary travel during peak snow times Tuesday night into Wednesday.
