Minneapolis, Minnesota – Southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin are in for a soaking midweek, with the potential for 4 to 5 inches of rain in some areas by Thursday evening, raising concerns about flooding on rural roads and low-lying areas.
According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, widespread rain is expected from Tuesday afternoon through early Friday, with the heaviest rainfall between Wednesday and Thursday. Areas around Rochester, Red Wing, and the Twin Cities metro could see between 2 and 4 inches, while localized totals near Worthington, Rice Lake, and Eau Claire could exceed 5 inches.
Roadways like U.S. Highway 52 and I-94 may experience pooling water and reduced visibility. Emergency managers urge residents in flood-prone zones to monitor alerts and avoid driving through water-covered roads.
Daytime highs will remain cooler in the low 70s during the rain, but heat rebounds Friday with highs near 90°F by Saturday. This wet pattern marks one of the region’s heaviest June rain events since 2019.
Rain chances return by Sunday, but Friday looks dry and warmer, offering a brief break from the midweek deluge.
⚠️ Rain alerts remain in effect through 7 a.m. Friday. Stay tuned for additional advisories.
