MINNEAPOLIS–ST. PAUL, Minn. — A brief bout of showers and storms will sweep through the Twin Cities Thursday morning before fall’s sunny calm returns. After a damp and cloudy start, Minnesota will dry out quickly by Friday, setting the stage for a cool, picture-perfect weekend.

The National Weather Service in Chanhassen reports that scattered showers and a few thunderstorms will pass through the metro Thursday, with rainfall totals staying light—mostly under a quarter inch. Winds will gust up to 25 mph from the south, making for blustery conditions along I-94 and I-35. Drivers should prepare for reduced visibility during the morning commute as the system moves east.

Friday brings the turnaround. Expect mostly sunny skies, highs near 74°F, and a refreshing breeze from the west. Saturday looks even better, with highs around 64°F and crisp morning air perfect for pumpkin patch visits, college football tailgates, and scenic leaf drives across the Twin Cities region.

By Sunday, the area settles into true fall rhythm—bright skies, highs near 59°F, and cool evenings ideal for early Halloween decorating or bonfire gatherings. Early next week, mild temperatures persist, with only a slim chance of light showers returning Tuesday.

Now’s the time to plan those outdoor weekend events. After Thursday’s rain clears, the Twin Cities will enjoy a textbook mid-October weekend filled with sunshine and fall color.
