Minnesota – Frost coats car windows, and exhaust hangs thick in still air as the Twin Cities start the day locked in deep winter cold. Even brief exposure feels harsh as wind cuts through gloves and scarves.

A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect across central, east-central, south-central, and southeast Minnesota through late morning. Wind chills are expected to plunge as low as 30 to 35 degrees below zero, making frostbite possible in as little as 10 minutes.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, temperatures sit well below zero early with light winds still strong enough to drive dangerous chills. Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport reported air temperatures near -3°F, with wind chills closer to -22°F before sunrise.

Travel impacts are limited by dry roads, but cold creates its own hazards. Vehicles may struggle to start, batteries weaken, and tire pressure drops quickly. Any snow packed on side streets remains hard and slick. Plan extra time and keep emergency gear in your car.

Conditions slowly improve later today as sunshine increases. Highs climb into the teens, though wind chills remain dangerous at times. Tuesday brings similar cold with highs near 9 degrees and lighter winds.

Midweek offers gradual relief. Wednesday and Thursday trend quieter with highs near 9 and mostly sunny skies. Nights remain cold, keeping refreezing a concern where melting occurs during daylight.

Late week temperatures inch upward. Friday brings highs near the low teens, and by Saturday, readings approach 20 degrees. A slight chance of light snow appears by the weekend, but no significant accumulation is expected now.

The broader 6–10 day outlook suggests drier conditions with temperatures edging closer to seasonal norms by early February.

Limit time outdoors, cover exposed skin, and check on neighbors and pets. How cold did it feel in your part of the Twin Cities this morning?
