Minneapolis, MN – Residents across southern Minnesota may want to keep umbrellas close this afternoon, as isolated showers and storms could bring strong to severe weather, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Twin Cities.

The agency said Sunday that scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop later in the day, with the highest chances south of the Twin Cities metro. A few of these storms could reach severe levels, producing gusty winds or heavy rainfall.

According to the NWS forecast, temperatures will reach 70 to 76 degrees today with mostly cloudy skies. The unsettled conditions are expected to taper off overnight, giving way to a stretch of quieter weather.

Beginning Monday, Minnesotans can expect several days of mild and sunny conditions. Highs will remain in the low to mid-70s, while overnight lows will dip into the 50s. Dew points will also hover in the 50s, contributing to comfortable, early fall weather across the state.

The extended forecast shows steady sunshine from Monday through Friday, with highs ranging between 71 and 78 degrees. While today brings the only significant storm risk, forecasters encourage residents to stay alert to changing weather, especially in southern Minnesota.
