Minnesota – Exhaust from idling cars hangs in the air as wind cuts across open streets. Winter has full control of the Twin Cities this morning.

Early temperatures sit near 17 degrees, with wind chills dipping close to 8 below zero. The cold bites fast on exposed skin. A few flurries linger before sunrise, though accumulation remains minimal. Roads are mostly dry, but slick patches may appear on untreated surfaces, especially bridges and ramps along I-94, I-35W, and Highway 52.

Skies turn partly sunny later today, but warmth stays elusive. Afternoon highs struggle to reach 19 degrees. Northwest winds keep the air feeling sharper than the thermometer suggests. Plan extra layers if walking or waiting outdoors.

Tonight brings clearing skies and colder air. Lows fall to around 4 degrees, setting the stage for another icy start Tuesday. Any moisture from daytime melting may refreeze, increasing the risk of flash freezing before dawn.

Tuesday stays cold but calm. Sunshine dominates with highs near 18 degrees. Winds ease, making it feel slightly more tolerable, though winter remains firmly in charge. Another weak disturbance Tuesday night could kick up spotty flurries, mainly west and north of the metro.

A noticeable shift arrives Wednesday. Highs climb to the low 20s, with lighter winds and more sun. The real change comes Thursday. Southerly flow pushes temperatures toward 40 degrees, a sharp turnaround for early February. Snowmelt increases, and wet pavement becomes more common by afternoon.

Looking toward the Feb 6–8 weekend, temperatures hover closer to seasonal norms. Highs range from the upper 20s to low 30s, with mostly dry conditions expected for now.

While much of the eastern U.S. battles extreme cold, Minnesota sits in a slow moderation phase. Meteorologists continue tracking clipper systems that could reintroduce snow chances later this month.

Dress for the cold today, watch for refreeze at night, and prepare for changing road conditions by midweek. How cold did it feel stepping outside this morning?
