Minnesota – Bitter air bites across Minneapolis–St. Paul this morning, with temperatures near 16 degrees and a wind chill around 7. The sky is mostly cloudy, and the cold feels sharp on exposed skin.
Clouds gradually thin through the day. Highs rebound to 42 degrees with light south winds shifting west this afternoon. That jump above freezing will help melt snow piles and dampen side streets.
Be cautious after sunset. Refreezing is likely as temperatures fall back toward 29 degrees tonight. This is prime time for flash freezing on bridges and ramps along I-94 and I-35W.
Friday brings a brief spring tease. Highs reach 47 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Southwest winds increase to 15 to 20 mph, with gusts near 30 mph. Snowmelt accelerates, and puddles will spread across parking lots.
Colder air rushes back in Friday night. Lows drop to 15 degrees with increasing clouds.
Saturday turns sharply colder with a high near 21 degrees. A 30 percent chance of snow develops, mainly before noon. Light accumulations are possible, and slick spots could form quickly if bursts of snow reduce visibility.
Saturday night clears out and turns frigid again, with lows near 5 degrees. Sunday stays cold with highs around 23 and increasing clouds.
By Monday, temperatures moderate to 38 degrees under partly sunny skies. A slight chance of snow returns Monday night. Highs push into the low 40s Tuesday and even mid-40s by Wednesday.
Looking 6 to 10 days ahead, signs point to a broader March warmup across the Upper Midwest.
