Minneapolis, MN – Minnesota residents should prepare for an unsettled stretch of fall weather beginning Thursday, September 18, with thunderstorms and heavy rain likely across the Minneapolis–St. Paul metro. Travelers and commuters are urged to plan ahead, as the storms may cause delays during morning and evening drive times.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms are expected to move into the region Thursday morning, with the strongest storms developing between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Rainfall amounts could reach up to one inch, with localized areas seeing higher totals. Flash flooding is possible in low-lying areas, and drivers on major roadways, including Interstate 35W and I-94, should allow extra time for slower travel.

Thursday night remains stormy, with more thunderstorms expected before midnight. Temperatures will stay mild, with lows near 64 degrees. Winds will be light from the east at around 5 mph.

Friday brings a chance of additional storms, mainly in the afternoon. Highs will reach the mid-70s, though skies should clear somewhat by evening. Commuters should continue to monitor conditions, especially during peak hours.

Looking ahead, Saturday appears drier but still carries a 40 percent chance of showers. Highs will hover near 75. Sunday and Monday both bring smaller chances of rain, with highs in the upper 70s. By Tuesday, conditions improve with sunshine and highs near 75 degrees.

Residents should remain weather-aware and check updates frequently. Keep an umbrella handy, avoid flooded roads, and use caution while driving during heavy rain.
