Minneapolis, Minn. – Minnesota drivers should prepare for changing skies this week, with thunderstorms expected to build by Tuesday afternoon and peak Wednesday night. Roads across the Twin Cities, including I-94, may see ponding water and reduced visibility, raising travel safety concerns.

According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, storm chances increase after 3 p.m. Tuesday, with a stronger round likely Wednesday evening. Heavy rain and lightning are possible, and localized flooding could slow the evening commute. Calm conditions early in the week will give way to gusty winds and unstable air by midweek.

In Minneapolis and St. Paul, Tuesday will start sunny with highs near 90, but storms may develop by late afternoon. Travelers on I-35 and I-94 should allow extra time and watch for rapidly changing conditions. By Wednesday, cooler highs in the mid-80s and a 50 percent storm chance could bring delays and power outages.

Eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin could see the heaviest rainfall. Commuters should avoid flooded roads, check flight status at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, and charge devices in case of outages.

Storms taper late Thursday, but scattered showers remain possible into Friday. Calmer, cooler air returns Saturday with highs near 80.

Residents should stay alert for additional advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours. Weather updates remain possible through the end of the week.
