Minneapolis, Minnesota – Storms are expected to sweep into the Twin Cities by Thursday afternoon, potentially disrupting travel on I-94 and bringing a quick end to Wednesday’s sunny, calm weather.

According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, Wednesday, July 9 will remain clear and warm with highs around 83°F. Winds will stay light out of the northeast. But by Thursday, July 10, a chance of thunderstorms develops after 1 p.m., with stronger storms and heavy rainfall likely by Thursday night. South-southeast winds between 10–15 mph could make driving more difficult on major highways, especially during the evening commute.

Rain chances persist into Friday, July 11, with a 60% probability of thunderstorms and temperatures cooling slightly to a high of 79°F. Localized flooding and wet road conditions are possible, particularly near low-lying areas and highway underpasses. Residents should keep phones charged, avoid flooded roads, and delay non-essential travel during peak storms.

Skies begin to clear Saturday, July 12, but scattered storms could redevelop by late afternoon. Sunday and Monday bring lower rain chances (20%) and highs rebounding into the mid-80s. This means a return to more typical mid-July warmth, but not without humidity.

Five-Day Weather Outlook for Minneapolis:
