East Grand Forks, Minn. – A round of thunderstorms, gusty winds, and periods of heavy rain could disrupt travel and outdoor plans in East Grand Forks by late Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, storms are expected to move into Polk County between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday, with wind gusts reaching up to 28 mph. Rainfall totals may hit a quarter of an inch in localized areas. Drivers should use caution on U.S. Route 2 and Minnesota Highway 220, especially as wet pavement and reduced visibility become hazards by midday.

Showers may persist through Tuesday evening, with a slight chance of thunder continuing until around 1 a.m. Wednesday. Skies will briefly clear midweek before rain chances return Friday into the weekend.

Here’s what to expect in the days ahead:

  • Wednesday (High 72°F): Partly sunny with only a 20% chance of afternoon rain. Calmer winds and drier air offer relief.
  • Thursday (High 74°F): Mostly sunny and seasonable. Winds shift southeast later in the day. Great for outdoor plans.
  • Friday (High 76°F): Scattered showers and storms could return after 1 p.m. Be weather-aware if heading outside.
  • Saturday (High 77°F): Isolated storms may linger into the evening. Muggy conditions continue.
  • Sunday (High 78°F): Spotty afternoon storms possible. South wind up to 15 mph may bring more humidity.

⚠️ Plan ahead: Use the early part of the week for errands or travel. Rain chances increase again Friday into the weekend. More updates expected Wednesday.
