Minneapolis, Minn. – Thunderstorms will build across central and southern Minnesota Saturday, bringing the risk of large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain. Travel along I-94 could become hazardous during the afternoon and evening as storms intensify.

According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, isolated severe storms are possible late Saturday, with the greatest risk across the Twin Cities metro and southward into central Minnesota. A stalled boundary could fuel multiple rounds of storms through Wednesday, increasing the threat of flash flooding in low-lying areas.

Drivers should avoid flooded roads and be prepared for reduced visibility during heavy downpours. Those outdoors should monitor conditions closely, especially in open areas where lightning poses a significant risk. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.

Saturday’s storms could bring rainfall totals exceeding one inch in localized spots. Combined with recent wet conditions, urban flooding may occur quickly. The heat index may approach the upper 90s ahead of the storms, adding heat-related concerns for outdoor workers and eventgoers.

The unsettled weather pattern continues into early next week, with additional thunderstorms possible Monday and Tuesday before drier air returns midweek. Warnings and advisories may be issued as conditions evolve.
