Duluth, MN – A week of shifting weather hazards has kicked off in northern Minnesota, with persistent wildfire smoke, storm chances midweek, and dangerous heat building by Thursday. Residents should be ready for quick changes and take precautions, especially for outdoor plans through Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, lingering smoke will affect air quality Monday, especially in the Northland. On-and-off storm chances will increase beginning Tuesday, with the highest risk for widespread showers and thunderstorms arriving Wednesday afternoon and evening. Strong wind gusts up to 25 mph may accompany these storms.

Monday: Patchy sprinkles early. High near 74°F, with light east wind.
Tuesday: Partly sunny, isolated storms by late afternoon. High near 76°F.
Wednesday: Stronger storms likely by afternoon and evening. High near 79°F, gusts to 20 mph.
Thursday: Heat surges into the region. Highs push into the upper 80s to low 90s.
Friday: Continued hot and humid with thunderstorm chances. High near 84°F.

By Thursday, the heat index may climb well into the 90s, especially in sheltered valleys. Those without AC should prepare now. Thunderstorm activity may return Friday and linger into the weekend.
