Minneapolis, Minn. – Drivers across Minnesota will see a bright, dry stretch as October begins, but late-week showers could disrupt travel. Temperatures will surge into the mid-80s through Friday, creating one more round of summerlike warmth before rain chances return.

According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, skies will stay mostly sunny Wednesday and Thursday, with highs near 84 to 85 degrees. South winds of 10 to 15 mph will accompany the warmth, with gusts up to 25 mph Friday. That breeze may complicate travel on I-35 and I-94, especially for high-profile vehicles.

Friday brings the first shift, with a 20 percent chance of showers after 1 p.m. and evening rain possible across the Twin Cities metro. Areas south and east, including Bloomington, Eagan, and Woodbury, may see the earliest showers.

The weekend turns more unsettled, with a 30 percent chance of rain Saturday and another round of showers and thunderstorms possible Sunday afternoon. Cooler air will follow, with highs falling back into the 60s by Monday. Residents should prepare for sudden changes in road conditions, especially during heavier showers. Outdoor plans later this week should include backup options, and drivers are urged to monitor updates for timing of Friday’s potential rain.

The warm, sunny streak will dominate through Thursday, but by Friday night, rain could signal the true arrival of fall.
