Twin Cities, MN – Residents across Minnesota and western Wisconsin should brace for a windy and stormy Sunday as a cold front sweeps through the region, bringing strong southerly winds and scattered afternoon thunderstorms before temperatures tumble early in the week.
According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities, peak wind gusts between 35 and 45 mph are expected through Sunday evening, especially in western and central Minnesota, including Alexandria, Redwood Falls, and Willmar. Winds will shift from the southwest to northwest by tonight as cooler, drier air moves in.
The agency warns that travel may be difficult for high-profile vehicles, particularly on east–west highways, and unsecured outdoor items may be blown around. Recent dry conditions could also combine with strong winds to elevate fire danger, prompting officials to urge caution with any outdoor burning.
Temperatures are forecast to drop sharply Monday, with highs only in the lower 60s compared to near 80 degrees Sunday. The Twin Cities area is expected to remain cool through midweek before warming back to near 70 by Thursday.
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms may develop late this afternoon and evening, mainly across eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin, before clearing overnight.
