DULUTH, MN — The still air and bright morning sky belie what’s coming next. Snow and blustery winds are on the way to Minnesota’s North Shore, ushering in a sharp winter change as the calendar flips to December.
By Tuesday evening, a strengthening low-pressure system will slide across northern Minnesota, bringing snow showers and gusty northwest winds up to 25 mph. While accumulations are expected to stay light — generally 1 to 3 inches — visibility could drop quickly in bursts of snow and blowing flakes.
The National Weather Service in Duluth warns that slick roads and wind chills below zero may affect travel late Tuesday through early Wednesday, particularly along Highway 53, I-35, and the Twin Ports corridor. Drivers should plan extra time for commutes or consider delaying longer trips until midweek.
Tuesday’s highs will reach near 22°F before dropping to the low teens as snow develops. By Wednesday morning, wind chills dip near -10°F, and conditions turn bitterly cold but mostly sunny. After midweek, temperatures stay below freezing, with another chance of light snow Thursday night and Friday as a reinforcing cold front sweeps across the region.
