Northwest Minnesota – A winter system is expected to bring snow and gusty winds to Northwest Minnesota starting early Friday. Travelers should prepare for challenging road conditions as winds up to 25 mph may cause blowing and drifting snow. The highest snow accumulations, over one inch, are likely in areas north of U.S. Highway 2.

According to the National Weather Service, snow will likely begin Friday morning and continue into the evening. Visibility could drop in open areas due to wind gusts, especially along major highways, such as U.S. Highway 2 and State Route 32. Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time and consider avoiding unnecessary trips during peak snowfall.

The detailed forecast predicts temperatures to rise slightly, with a high near 28 degrees on Friday. However, the real-feel temperature will remain much colder due to wind chills. Conditions will improve Saturday with clear skies and a high of 18 degrees, but strong winds could persist, making outdoor activities feel bitterly cold.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Sunday will bring sunshine and calmer winds, with highs near 27 degrees. By Monday, temperatures could reach a milder 31 degrees, offering some relief after a cold and snowy end to the week.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated on weather conditions and road closures through local weather alerts. Prepare emergency kits for vehicles, including blankets, water, and a flashlight, to ensure safety during travel.
