Minneapolis, Minnesota – Strong thunderstorms could hit parts of southern Minnesota and the Twin Cities by Monday afternoon, bringing a renewed threat of lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall through Monday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Twin Cities, a multi-day stretch of unsettled weather begins late Saturday and intensifies into Monday. Rain chances increase steadily overnight Saturday with precipitation likely by early Sunday across areas like Mankato, Albert Lea, and Hutchinson. By Monday, a stronger system could trigger severe storms, particularly from mid-afternoon into the evening hours.

Cities including Saint Cloud, Fairmont, and Red Wing show a 60–70% probability of storms between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. Monday. The Twin Cities area has a 55–65% chance of storms in the same window. High temperatures will climb into the mid to upper 80s Monday, increasing atmospheric instability.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, review severe weather plans, and remain weather-aware, especially Monday afternoon. Avoid unnecessary travel during active storms, and have multiple ways to receive alerts.

Thunderstorm chances continue into early Tuesday, particularly in southern Minnesota. Another round of showers is possible by midweek.
