Minneapolis, Minnesota – Minnesotans should brace for a volatile Tuesday as dangerous storms and oppressive heat sweep across the central part of the state.
According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, thunderstorms are expected to ignite across the region after 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 29th, following a sweltering afternoon with heat index values reaching up to 96°F. A Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) remains in place for severe weather, including damaging winds, large hail, and localized flooding, especially along the I-94 corridor near Minneapolis, St. Paul, and into western Wisconsin.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during storm hours, and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Some storms may intensify quickly with downpours likely to reduce visibility on major roadways. Power outages are also possible due to wind gusts.
By Tuesday night, storms will taper off, leading into a quieter midweek stretch.
