DULUTH, Minn. – A cloudy, unsettled stretch of fall weather is taking shape across the North Shore this week, bringing on-and-off rain, breezy conditions, and cooler air by the weekend. After a calm start Tuesday, showers are expected to return late tonight and persist through Friday, creating slippery conditions on I-35 and reducing visibility along Lake Superior’s scenic routes.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a series of low-pressure systems will move through northern Minnesota beginning late Tuesday night. Light showers will expand northward Wednesday morning, with rain chances peaking Thursday and Friday as a stronger front sweeps across the region. Highs will reach only the upper 50s to low 60s through midweek before dipping into the 50s this weekend.

Forecasters warn of gusty east-to-south winds between 15 and 25 mph at times, especially near the lakeshore, where waves could build along Canal Park and Brighton Beach. Motorists should use caution on slick roads and be prepared for brief downpours and gusty crosswinds on bridges and elevated sections of I-35.

By late Saturday, drier and cooler air filters back in, signaling a true fall feel to close out the weekend. Temperatures will likely stay in the upper 40s and low 50s Sunday with clearing skies and brisk northwest winds — ideal for indoor plans or bundled-up leaf-peeping drives.
