Minneapolis, MN – Minnesota is under a broad weather alert as a series of Alberta Clippers may bring pop-up snowstorms every other day from Saturday, December 7, through Friday, December 13, according to forecasters. The active pattern could create repeated, fast-changing travel hazards across both Minnesota and the wider Upper Midwest.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a strengthening northwest flow will send multiple clipper disturbances sweeping across the western Great Lakes and Upper Midwest. These quick-hitting systems—nicknamed the “Clipper Express”—often generate short bursts of snow, gusty winds, and sudden drops in temperature.

The first wave is expected to arrive Saturday night, with additional disturbances possible roughly every 48 hours through the end of next week. While forecasters stress that snowfall totals remain uncertain, each clipper could produce enough accumulation to affect morning or evening commutes, especially across the Twin Cities metro and central Minnesota.

NWS meteorologists emphasize that the exact track of each system remains unclear, making it difficult to pinpoint where the heaviest snow will fall. Because Alberta Clippers form and intensify rapidly, Minnesota residents should prepare for shifting conditions and short-notice updates as the pattern evolves between December 7 and 13.

Impacts may extend beyond Minneapolis and St. Paul into Duluth, Rochester, St. Cloud, and much of the surrounding Upper Midwest. The NWS urges travelers to monitor updated forecasts, particularly those driving long distances or commuting during early morning hours.

With repeated systems lined up, residents should expect periods of snow, blowing snow, and reduced visibility throughout the week.
