Minneapolis, Minnesota – Two rounds of light snow are expected to affect travel across Minnesota today and Wednesday, with impacts most likely during morning commute hours.

According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities/Chanhassen, light snow is forecast this morning, followed by another round Wednesday morning as a series of clipper systems move through the region. Snowfall with each round is expected to remain light, with total accumulations around one inch or less.

Forecast timing graphics show snow developing early this morning across central and southern Minnesota, including the Twin Cities metro, St. Cloud, Mankato, Red Wing, and Eau Claire. Snow is expected to taper off by midday before another period of light snow develops early Wednesday, again diminishing later in the day.

The National Weather Service noted that while snowfall amounts will be minor, slower morning commutes are possible, particularly on untreated roads, bridges, and ramps. Visibility reductions may occur at times during active snowfall, though widespread heavy snow is not expected.

Snowfall maps indicate most of eastern and central Minnesota receiving a trace to one inch during each period, with limited accumulation across western portions of the state. No significant winter storm impacts were indicated in the forecast.

Temperatures today are expected to be relatively mild for late December. Forecasters said Tuesday will be the warmest day of the week, with highs ranging from the mid-20s to mid-30s, which may help limit snow accumulation on some road surfaces.

Commuters, students, and early-morning travelers should allow extra time and use caution during both morning drive periods.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and local road conditions as conditions change.
