Duluth, MN – Northeast Minnesota is bracing for potential severe weather, including possible fair-weather tornadoes over Lake Superior. The US National Weather Service in Duluth reported that isolated rain showers will linger today and Friday, mainly in northeast Minnesota. Cooler temperatures are expected to persist, with highs in the 60s to low 70s today.

According to the National Weather Service, there’s a 10-20% chance of fair-weather tornadoes on Lake Superior due to the cool, fall-like temperatures. These tornadoes can lead to locally hazardous seas, posing a risk to boaters and shorelines. If you observe a tornado, move at a 90-degree angle to its apparent movement and take shelter if it appears to be heading towards land.

Thursday’s high temperatures across the region are expected to be in the 60s, with Duluth reaching a high of 67°F. Friday will continue with highs around 66°F and similar precipitation chances. The weekend will see a slight warm-up, with highs reaching 73°F on Saturday and 77°F on Sunday.

Isolated showers are predicted to be more prevalent in the afternoons and early evenings. Areas such as International Falls and Big Fork may not see high temperatures over 60°F on Friday. Cooler weather will persist into early next week, with sunny skies and temperatures rising to the upper 70s by Monday.
