Minneapolis, MN – Severe thunderstorms and heavy rain are forecasted to hit Minnesota today, raising concerns about flooding and hail damage across the state.
According to the US National Weather Service Twin Cities, gusty winds and large hail will be significant threats as storms move through the region. The severe weather risk level has been downgraded from moderate to slight, but heavy rain remains a concern, particularly in areas with poor drainage.
Showers are expected to persist throughout the day, increasing the likelihood of flooding. The weather service has indicated that the main rounds of precipitation will occur this morning and again in the afternoon into the night. Towns including Albert Lea, Mankato, and the Twin Cities have a high probability of precipitation, with forecasts showing an 85% chance of rain in many areas.
Residents are advised to stay indoors and avoid traveling in flood-prone areas. The National Weather Service also warns of potential power outages due to the strong winds accompanying the thunderstorms. Further rain is predicted for later in the week, compounding the flooding risk.
