Duluth, Minn. – A burst of unseasonably cold air could bring frost and even freeze conditions to northern Minnesota Sunday and Monday nights, with overnight lows plunging into the 30s across much of the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, areas from Ely to International Falls, Grand Rapids, and Virginia could see temperatures drop as low as 32°F late Sunday and Monday nights. The chilly snap follows a round of light rain Friday and Saturday, and arrives just as early-season planting begins for many in the Northland.

Gardeners and growers in Brainerd, Hibbing, and Solon Springs should take precautions to protect sensitive vegetation, as even patchy frost may damage unprotected plants. Residents are also urged to check heating systems and ensure pets have shelter overnight.

While no official frost advisory is yet in effect, temperatures in Ashland, Walker, and Grand Marais are also expected to dip into the mid-to-upper 30s, raising concerns for widespread frost potential.

Conditions may moderate by midweek, but forecasters caution that updated advisories could be issued if colder air sinks further south. Stay tuned for new updates as Sunday approaches.
