Duluth, MN – Residents in northeast Minnesota should prepare for unseasonably cold temperatures overnight as a frost advisory has been issued for early Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, the advisory is in place from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. CDT Saturday. Temperatures are expected to fall between 32 and 35 degrees, which may result in frost formation across the region.
Areas affected include cities such as Duluth, Hibbing, International Falls, Grand Rapids, Two Harbors, Ely, and Grand Marais. The advisory also extends through counties including St. Louis, Itasca, Cook, Lake, Aitkin, Carlton, and Pine.
Officials warn that the cold conditions could harm sensitive vegetation. Unprotected outdoor plants may be damaged or killed if not covered or brought inside before temperatures drop.
Gardening experts recommend covering plants with breathable materials or relocating potted plants indoors to reduce potential damage. Despite the late spring timing, frost events remain possible in northern Minnesota’s varied climate.
Temperatures are expected to rise again by mid-morning Saturday, lessening the risk of further frost damage. Residents should continue to monitor local forecasts for any updates or changes.
