Duluth, MN – A spring weather alert has been issued for Duluth and surrounding northern Minnesota counties as dangerous fire conditions and icy roads are expected Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a light wintry mix will begin late Tuesday and develop into a potentially hazardous snow and ice event by early Wednesday morning. Areas including Brainerd Lakes, Walker, and Lake Winnie may see a glaze of ice, with snowfall up to 2 inches possible through Thursday across the Arrowhead. Winds will gust as high as 25 mph, reducing visibility and increasing travel risk on roads such as U.S. Highway 53 and MN-61.
Dry conditions and humidity levels near 15% will also raise fire danger across northeast Minnesota Tuesday afternoon. Residents are urged to avoid open burning and check Minnesota DNR restrictions at dnr.state.mn.us.
