Duluth, MN – Minnesota residents should prepare now as winter storm conditions are set to create dangerous travel and power risks across Duluth and the North Shore beginning Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from late Thursday night through Saturday morning, with heavy mixed precipitation expected, including up to 6 inches of snow and significant ice accumulations. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph, especially along Highway 61 from Two Harbors to Silver Bay, creating slick roads and downed tree limbs.
The heaviest ice is forecast for the higher elevations northeast of Duluth, with St. Louis and Lake Counties likely to see the most dangerous impacts. Residents should avoid unnecessary travel Friday afternoon into early Saturday, as road conditions may become nearly impassable. Power outages and tree damage are possible due to accumulating ice and gusty winds.
