Minneapolis, Minn. – Drivers across central and southern Minnesota woke up to dense fog Tuesday morning, slowing commutes and reducing visibility to less than a quarter-mile in some areas. The National Weather Service warned motorists to use caution during early travel, particularly on rural highways and low-lying routes.

According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities office, the fog is expected to lift by late morning as skies gradually clear. Conditions will improve through the afternoon with highs reaching the low-80s across Minneapolis, St. Paul, and surrounding communities. No hazardous weather is expected beyond today until late in the week.

Patchy fog may return overnight into Wednesday morning, though visibility impacts will be lighter. The rest of the week looks mainly dry with highs near 80, but forecasters note a slight chance of thunderstorms Thursday night into Friday, particularly for southern Minnesota counties including Blue Earth, Waseca, and Steele.

Travelers should allow extra time Tuesday morning, keep headlights on in fog, and avoid sudden braking in low-visibility stretches. More active weather remains possible heading into the weekend.
