Grand Forks, ND – Drivers across northwest Minnesota and the Red River Valley could face dangerously reduced visibility Thursday morning as dense fog settles over the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, light winds and variable sky cover allowed fog to develop before sunrise, stretching from Grand Forks through Thief River Falls, Roseau, Warroad, and Baudette. The fog is expected to persist through mid-morning, gradually lifting by 10 a.m.

Cities including Crookston, East Grand Forks, and Red Lake Falls are experiencing pockets of thick fog, with visibility dropping below a quarter-mile in some areas. Motorists are urged to use low-beam headlights, allow extra stopping distance, and delay non-essential travel where possible.

This fog band follows a period of calm weather but serves as a reminder of spring’s shifting conditions. Morning commuters in Pennington, Polk, and Marshall counties should remain cautious, especially along Highway 2 and regional routes near low-lying fields or water sources.

Conditions are expected to improve later this morning, but travelers should stay alert for rapidly changing visibility. Additional advisories could be issued if fog redevelops overnight or lingers longer than expected.
