Duluth, MN – A soft, gray haze blankets Lake Superior this morning, muffling the harbor and cutting visibility to barely a quarter-mile in spots. The National Weather Service in Duluth has issued a Dense Fog Advisory through late morning for much of northeast Minnesota, including Duluth, Two Harbors, Grand Rapids, and the Iron Range. Drivers should slow down, use low beams, and allow extra space on highways — particularly along I-35 and Highway 53, where visibility may drop suddenly.

As the fog lifts toward midday, skies will remain mostly cloudy with highs near 47°F. Winds stay light from the south before shifting northwest late in the day. Cooler air arrives Friday with highs near 48°F and a 30% chance of light showers spreading across the region by afternoon. Gusts could reach 15 mph, adding a brisk edge along the shoreline.

Saturday turns partly sunny and cooler with highs around 44°F, while Sunday brings a few passing showers and breezy conditions from the west. Temperatures stay steady in the 40s and low 50s into early next week, a typical late-October pattern for northern Minnesota.

Looking ahead, long-range models hint at the first snow chances by mid-November, especially for the Arrowhead and higher elevations inland. While no winter system is imminent, colder trends are emerging across the Upper Midwest — signaling that the quiet calm before winter’s first punch may not last long.
