Minneapolis, Minn. – Dense fog is slowing travel across southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin Sunday morning, but conditions will improve before storm chances return early in the week. Drivers in the Twin Cities should plan for reduced visibility through 9 a.m. before sunshine takes over later in the day.

According to the National Weather Service, Sunday will be sunny with highs near 66. However, showers and thunderstorms return by Monday afternoon with gusty winds up to 25 mph possible. Monday night brings a 60 percent chance of showers and storms, with another round possible Tuesday. Highs will stay in the low to mid-70s during the stormy stretch.

Travel on I-35, I-94, and I-494 could be impacted by dense fog early Sunday and heavy rain Monday night. Motorists are urged to slow down, use headlights, and allow extra space when visibility drops or when storms flare up.

By Wednesday, high pressure builds back in, bringing mostly sunny skies and highs near 77. NOAA’s extended outlook keeps Minnesota in a near-normal rainfall zone, but short bursts of rain and thunderstorms will be enough to disrupt commutes and outdoor plans early in the week.

The National Weather Service expects calmer, sunnier conditions to return midweek, with temperatures climbing into the upper 70s and near 80 by Friday.
