Duluth, Minn. – Drivers in northeast Minnesota could face visibility under a quarter mile as dense fog lingers into Wednesday morning. Travel along I-35 near Duluth and U.S. Highway 53 into the Iron Range may slow to dangerous levels during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, scattered thunderstorms will roll from northwest to southeast Tuesday afternoon into the evening. While storms are expected to stay below severe limits, gusts may top 40 mph and lightning could knock out power or slow air travel. Locally heavy rainfall could also cause ponding on roads and minor flooding in low-lying areas.

Fog is expected to redevelop Tuesday night and may linger through early Wednesday before lifting by late morning. Drivers are urged to use headlights, slow down, and allow extra space in traffic. Residents should keep devices charged in case of power outages and avoid driving through standing water.

Conditions turn quieter midweek with partly sunny skies and highs in the mid-60s Wednesday and Thursday. Another round of showers and thunderstorms returns Friday and Friday night, bringing a fresh risk for heavy rain into the weekend.

More updates will follow as additional advisories may be issued through the week.
