DULUTH, Minn. – Drivers and beachgoers face a dangerous mix of weather tonight into Monday morning, with dense fog and large waves along Lake Superior creating hazardous travel and shoreline conditions. Anyone traveling on I-35 near Duluth or visiting Wisconsin Point beaches should prepare for limited visibility and rip current dangers.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, strong northeast winds are fueling Lake Superior’s high waves, while fog will expand inland late tonight and linger through early Monday. A Beach Hazards Statement and Dense Fog Advisory remain in effect for parts of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.

Travelers should allow extra time during the Monday morning commute, as visibility could drop near zero in low-lying areas. Authorities advise drivers to slow down, keep headlights on, and avoid sudden lane changes. Swimmers and boaters are urged to stay off the water due to the heightened rip current risk.

By Monday afternoon, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms may develop, with chances increasing again Monday night into Tuesday. Conditions will briefly improve Tuesday with sunshine, before more showers and thunderstorms return midweek.

The unsettled pattern signals an early taste of fall weather across the Northland, with fluctuating temperatures and frequent rain chances through the week.

Warnings remain in effect through Monday morning, with more advisories possible if storms persist into midweek.
