Minneapolis, Minnesota – Melting snow and rising temperatures are setting the stage for dense fog that could sharply reduce visibility across the Twin Cities and central Minnesota within the next few hours.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, temperatures will climb above freezing today with highs reaching 38°F to 44°F under mostly sunny skies. However, lingering snowpack combined with light winds will lead to areas of dense fog developing late tonight and continuing into early Thursday morning.

Drivers along I-94, I-35, and Highway 169 should prepare for sudden drops in visibility, especially during the early morning commute. Fog may become locally dense, making travel hazardous in low-lying and rural areas.

The warming trend continues Thursday with highs between 44°F and 49°F, along with patchy fog early and late in the day. By Friday, temperatures climb into the mid-50s to mid-60s, accelerating snowmelt and maintaining fog potential during overnight hours.

Saturday brings the warmest conditions, with highs reaching 60°F to 68°F before a cooldown arrives Sunday with highs back into the 40s.

Drivers should use low-beam headlights in fog, allow extra travel time, and remain alert for rapidly changing visibility. Additional advisories may be issued if dense fog becomes widespread overnight.
