Minneapolis, MN – Temperatures soaring near 80 degrees in southern Minnesota today will give way to rain and a potential late-week snow threat, creating a rapid shift that could impact midweek travel.

According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities office, a warm front is driving a sharp north-to-south temperature split Monday, with highs ranging from the 60s in central Minnesota to near 80 degrees farther south. Isolated showers and a few thunderstorms may begin late tonight, continuing into early Tuesday morning.

Rain chances increase Tuesday morning, especially across western Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota, with highs cooling into the 40s and low 50s. While rainfall remains light, the bigger system arrives Wednesday night as colder air pushes in.

Forecasters say a wintry mix will develop late Wednesday, transitioning into periods of snow by Thursday. Highs will drop into the mid-30s to near 40 degrees, and some accumulation is possible, particularly on grassy surfaces and untreated roads.

Drivers along I-94 and I-35 should prepare for changing road conditions by Thursday morning. Residents are urged to monitor updates and plan for a sharp temperature drop within 48 hours, as additional advisories may be issued.
