Minneapolis, MN – Snowflakes drift steadily across the Twin Cities this morning, blanketing roads, rooftops, and frozen fields as the first significant December snowstorm settles in. The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for much of central, southern, and eastern Minnesota, with totals of 4 to 6 inches likely along the I-90 corridor by tonight.

Drivers are urged to plan extra time and slow down—visibility may drop quickly as snow bands thicken through mid-afternoon. Slick conditions are already being reported along stretches of I-35 and Highway 169, where the mix of snow and slush has made braking difficult. Meteorologists say the heaviest bursts will move eastward into western Wisconsin by evening, continuing to coat untreated surfaces.

Temperatures remain locked in the low 20s, and winds from the northwest near 10 to 15 mph will make it feel closer to the teens. By Sunday, skies should clear briefly with a high near 25°F, offering a short break before more snow and rain chances return Tuesday. Long-range models also hint at a potential lake-effect snow pattern between Dec. 11–17, suggesting the Upper Midwest could face another round of travel disruptions just as early holiday travel ramps up.

Five-Day Outlook for Minneapolis–St. Paul:

  • Saturday: Snow likely. 4–6 inches expected. High 19°F.
  • Sunday: Partly sunny, high 25°F.
  • Monday: Mostly cloudy, high 26°F.
  • Tuesday: Rain/snow mix, high 35°F.
  • Wednesday: Breezy, chance of flurries, high 21°F.
