Minneapolis, Minnesota – Fire danger is set to increase rapidly across Minnesota this weekend as warming temperatures, gusty winds, and dry conditions combine to create a high-risk environment by Saturday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, wind gusts between 25 and 35 mph and relative humidity dropping to 15 to 25 percent will create potentially critical fire weather conditions, especially across southern and western Minnesota. Areas including Mankato, Marshall, and the Twin Cities metro could see fires start and spread quickly.

After a cooler Friday with highs in the 30s to near 40 degrees, temperatures will surge into the 50s and 60s Saturday, continuing into the 60s and low 70s by Sunday and Monday. Dry vegetation and a lack of recent green-up increase the risk of fast-moving grass fires.

The highest concern is west and southwest of Minneapolis along corridors like I-90 and Highway 169, where fuels remain especially dry.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and use caution with equipment that could produce sparks. Secure loose items as winds increase through the afternoon.

Elevated fire risk will continue into early next week as warm, dry conditions persist, with additional advisories possible.
