Grand Marais, MN – Snow continues to coat roads along Minnesota’s North Shore late Tuesday morning, creating slippery travel conditions through midafternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 3 p.m. CST for Southern Cook County, Northern Cook and Lake counties, and Southern Lake County. Additional snowfall between 1 and 3 inches is expected in Southern Cook County, including Grand Marais and the Grand Portage Reservation. Up to 2 inches will fall across the Boundary Waters and communities such as Isabella, Silver Bay and Two Harbors.
Across the border in Iron County, Wisconsin, the advisory continues until 2 p.m., with up to 1 inch of snow and wind gusts reaching 45 mph. Gusty winds may snap small tree branches and reduce visibility on exposed stretches of Highway 2 and Highway 77 near Hurley.
Untreated roads, bridges and elevated surfaces may become slick quickly. Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and check 511mn.org or 511wi.gov for the latest conditions before traveling.
Snow will gradually taper this afternoon, but patchy icy spots could linger into the evening where temperatures remain below freezing.
