Duluth, Minnesota – Drivers across northeast Minnesota could face ponding water and reduced visibility by Monday evening as a new round of heavy rain targets the Northland.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, the greatest risk for excessive rainfall has shifted later, with the primary window now set for Monday into early Tuesday. Rain chances climb as high as 80% in Duluth, Superior, and across northwest Wisconsin, with multiple rounds of storms expected.
Storms beginning Sunday afternoon may produce isolated severe weather, including hail up to 1 inch and damaging wind gusts. By Monday, the threat expands, with scattered severe storms possible farther south toward Hinckley, Rice Lake, and Park Falls during the afternoon and evening hours.
Rainfall totals through the period are expected between 0.25 and 1 inch, but localized heavier amounts could trigger minor flooding, especially in low-lying or poor drainage areas. Roads near U.S. Highway 53 and Interstate 35 could see standing water during heavier bursts.
Residents should monitor alerts, avoid flooded roadways, and prepare for changing conditions during evening travel. Additional advisories are likely as this wet pattern continues into Tuesday.
