Duluth, Minnesota – A prolonged stretch of rain is set to move into northern Minnesota this weekend, with enough moisture to raise concerns for river and low-lying area flooding by early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, an active weather pattern begins Saturday evening, with rain chances quickly climbing to 70–90% across much of the Northland, including Duluth, Grand Rapids, and International Falls. Multiple rounds of rain and thunderstorms are expected through Monday night.

Rainfall totals could exceed 1 inch in many locations, with locally higher amounts possible. When combined with ongoing snowmelt along the North Shore and into northwest Wisconsin, this could lead to rising rivers and localized flooding concerns, especially in flood-prone areas.

Cities along Highway 61 and inland routes like U.S. 53 and Highway 2 may see periods of reduced visibility and water pooling on roads during heavier rainfall.

Temperatures will trend warmer through the period, with highs climbing into the 50s and 60s, and some areas nearing 70 degrees by Sunday. Cooler air returns Tuesday, bringing a chance for mixed precipitation.

Residents should monitor river levels and prepare for potential water impacts, as additional advisories or flood alerts may be issued heading into early next week.
