Garden City, MN – Motorists traveling on Highway 169 near Garden City will encounter new traffic safety measures, including a reduced speed limit, starting this Monday. These changes are designed to enhance safety and reduce motorist speeds at the intersection of Highway 169 and County Road 13.
According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), starting Monday, traffic barrels, rumble strips, and delineators will be added to the intersection. The speed limit on Highway 169 in both directions will be lowered from 60 MPH to 45 MPH for approximately one mile. This reduced speed limit will be enforced 24 hours a day and will remain in place until the Highway 60 Lake Crystal reconstruction project is completed this fall.
Additional safety enhancements at this location include flashing LED “Intersection Ahead” warning signs on Highway 169 in both directions. Portable message boards are also in place, with one on County Road 13 reminding drivers that cross traffic does not stop, and another on southbound Highway 169 urging drivers to slow down. Rumble strips have been installed on County Road 13 in advance of the new LED-enhanced stop sign, and on Highway 169 in both directions ahead of the intersection of County Road 13.
MnDOT advises motorists to remain alert, be patient, obey work zone speed limits, and proceed through intersections with caution for everyone’s safety. For more information regarding the Highway 60 Lake Crystal project, residents can visit the MnDOT website.
