Minneapolis, Minn. – Strong thunderstorms are expected to move across Minnesota beginning Tuesday afternoon, bringing heavy rain, lightning, and the risk of localized flooding through Wednesday evening.

According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities, an 80% chance of thunderstorms is in place for both Tuesday and Wednesday, with the most intense activity expected during the late afternoon and evening hours. Temperatures will remain in the low to mid-80s, but the muggy conditions could make it feel warmer. Isolated storms are also possible Sunday night, though the main threat begins Tuesday.

The Twin Cities metro area, along with southern and central Minnesota, could see brief downpours and gusty winds. Roads may become slick during the evening commute, especially along I-94, Highway 169, and across the southern suburbs. Cities including St. Cloud, Mankato, and Rochester should also prepare for possible thunderstorm activity and minor street flooding.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor plans Tuesday evening, secure loose outdoor items, and keep phones charged in case of power outages. While Monday will remain dry and humid, the transition to stormy conditions could be rapid.

Storm chances are expected to decrease by Thursday, but additional alerts may be issued if conditions worsen.
