Minneapolis, Minnesota – A surge of summer storms could soak Minneapolis and central Minnesota by Tuesday night, with heavy rain and flash flooding possible through midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, scattered showers begin developing Tuesday afternoon, with widespread thunderstorms expected by evening. A few could turn severe, bringing large hail, damaging winds, and intense rainfall. The flash flood risk is highest along I-94 and I-35 corridors, especially from southern Minnesota into western Wisconsin.

Tuesday’s high will reach near 79°F, but unstable air and east-northeast winds may trigger downpours late. Rain chances rise to 90% by Wednesday. Cities like St. Cloud, Rochester, and Eau Claire could see over an inch of rainfall. Storms may train over the same regions, increasing the chance of localized flooding — especially in low-lying areas and underpasses.

Drivers should avoid flooded roads and monitor travel alerts. Residents are urged to clear storm drains, charge devices, and secure outdoor items. No tornadoes are currently expected, but hail and strong gusts may lead to power outages or minor damage.

Showers taper slightly by Thursday but remain a threat through Saturday. Spotter activation is not expected, but weather conditions will be monitored closely.

Warnings remain in effect through Wednesday night, with more advisories likely if storm activity intensifies.
