Duluth, Minn. – Storms and soupy humidity could stall outdoor plans across Duluth on Sunday as a wave of thunderstorms rolls into northeast Minnesota. The National Weather Service warns of locally heavy rainfall, limited visibility due to fog, and a marginal risk for severe weather starting late morning and lasting through the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, scattered thunderstorms are expected to begin as early as 8 a.m. Sunday, June 29, with patchy fog lingering across the region. Residents in northwest Wisconsin, especially near Ashland, Bayfield, and Sawyer counties, may see minor flooding Sunday night as rainfall totals approach half an inch.

Drivers on U.S. Highway 53 and local rural routes should reduce speed and use headlights during foggy conditions. Some storms may bring gusty winds and lightning, so residents are advised to secure outdoor items and avoid travel during downpours. Skywarn spotters may be activated Sunday as conditions evolve.

More storm chances return Monday and Wednesday, with breezy and warmer weather expected in between. By Independence Day, July 4, the region turns cooler and quieter — highs drop to the mid-70s under partly sunny skies. Winds will be calm, providing a break from early-week instability.
